Windows 8.1 will be released in October to users, according to Zdnet’s Mary Jo Foley. Microsoft should be releasing to manufacturing the update by the end of August, but it won’t be rolled out to users for a couple of months.
The upcoming Windows 8 update is highly anticipated, as it brings a number of changes that users have been requesting since the controversial operating system was released. The Windows Start Button is making a return, of sorts. Now you’ll easily be able to get from the classic desktop to the Modern UI by clicking the icon where you would expect the Start Button to be. It’s not the same as the well loved Windows 7 and earlier button, but it’s a welcome addition.
Another sure to be popular development is boot to desktop. You will be able to choose to go directly to the classic desktop when you boot your computer, which will suit those users who prefer that environment.
